Fashion fashioning

St. Etienne Cathedrale at Chalons in the 18th century

St. Etienne Cathedrale at Chalons has had many changes throughout the centuries. If you visit Chalons, you will notice that the book’s version is a little different than that of present day.
Initially a Roman Cathedrale, it is quickly subjet to tha gothic influence, and sees iself radiant and ambulatory chappelles added on.
In the 16th century, the north tour was equiped with a wooden and lead arrow. It was hit by lightening, creating a fire that even destroyed part of the vault as well. At the end of the 17th century, two arrows were added, mi-gothic and mi-baroc, which we can admire in Gaelle’s drawing.

Never the less, during a huge restauration in the 19th century, the arrows were judged to be out of harmony and were destroyed. That is why today, you may notice that both tours stand capless.
